Bibliotecha is a space to facilitate the local distribution of digital publications within the community around Ebertplatz, Cologne.

The project relies on a microcomputer running open-source software to serve books over a local wifi hotspot. Using the browser to connect to the library one can read, categorize or donate texts. Bibliotecha proposes an alternative model of distribution of digital texts that allows us to form and share our own collections.

The digital library opened on 11 December 2019 with publications selected by artists, scientists and collectives. More than 100 books in German, English and Spanish are available for the public.

How does it work?

  1. Open your network preferences on your mobile phone, tablet or laptop
  2. Select “Bibliotecha” Wi-Fi network
  3. Open your browser and go to the website “http://bibliotecha.library”
  4. Choose “Search” to browse our current catalog or “Upload” to donate books to Bibliotecha.
